History Alive
There is no better way to excite and engage an audience in history than to bring the past to them in real life. This way they stop being an audience - simply observing the events - and start living it with the characters, in the middle of it all. So, until the time machine is invented, Sideways Theatre's 'History Alive' programme is a fantastic way of breathing life - and meaning - into historical events and people.
'History Alive' is designed especially to engage audiences of all ages in an innovative exploration of the past. For years, this has been one of our most popular programmes, working with museums such as the amazing RAF Museum Cosford, to organisations such as the BBC, and running our 'Time Tunnel' Experiental events at countless schools.
We've developed a special relationship over the years with RAF Museum Cosford. We've held audiences on the brink of nuclear war with Krushchev and Kennedy at Cosford's amazing Cold War hangar. We've engaged children in growing their own vegetables with Adam the Gardener. We've re-created the David Frost interview of Russian Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. And we've even brought Churchill's battle of Britain speeches back to life before an enthralling spitfire fly-over.
We're expanding our offering to museums in 2011 with our
'Night at the Museum' concept and adventure experience for children. Please get in touch for more information.
Our
'Time Tunnel' programmes for children and young people are extremely popular with schools parties - both in school or off site. The actors facilitate the children in a
historical learning journey using a combination of performance and activities. Previous characters have ranged from Sir Walter Raleigh to Neil Armstrong, Odysseus to Joan of Arc and Amelia Earhart to Picasso!
We have also brought forward new characters from various eras - from the Tudors to cavemen.
A recent event for the BBC saw the Normans arrive in the Tardis!
