Creative Learning

Sideways Theatre is passionate about delivering innovative drama workshops and experiences that spark active, effective learning. Based on the principle that "the best education has creativity at its heart", our drama techniques, performances and thematic learning programmes are developed to inspire and engage children and young people in learning across the curriculum, from key stages 1 to 4 and beyond. Our programmes have been shaped from years of experience working in education and are designed to be as relevant as possible, meeting the challenges and targets that teachers are facing today. We always aim to provide a springboard for projects that can be sustained beyond the life of the workshop itself.

We provide a range of support services to teachers. These range from drama facilitation to PSHE and transition programmes; out of school clubs and holiday academies to 'Experiental' days or INSET / CPD training programmes.

In response to recent changes in the education landscape, we have also launched a new creative consultancy service for schools.

This is an impartial planning service that helps:
i) develop a sustainable strategy for integrating creativity within the curriculum, and the ethos of a school
ii) match the school's creative needs to appropriate, quality arts provision.

However, it's important to recognise that it isn't always about bringing in external resource to deliver creative programmes. Increasingly, we are helping to find ways for a school to tap into existing resource, or involve teachers in a relevant training programme.

Where we differ
Unlike many TIE providers, Sideways Theatre's focus is on providing or encouraging a participatory arts experience as opposed to a passive performance-led delivery. Our approach is best summed-up in the following belief:

Tell me: I'll forget
Show me: I'll remember
but Involve me: I'll learn
