Holiday & weekend academies

Sideways Theatre's creative and drama academies give children and young people the freedom to express themselves creatively within an informal environment. Working on communication, team work, decision making, and self esteem the key skills they develop from our work helps to improve their learning and attainment back in the school environment. At the same time it provides invaluable life skills. All our work is with the governments 'Every Child Matters' strategy and 'Extended Schools' agenda in mind. With time on their side, their imaginations guiding them, and professional theatre actors/directors leading them, the children in our academies have the chance to explore their own amazing imaginations and create something spectacular.

Our courses offer a wide range of skills from circus & Commedia to dance, singing, mime, and even stage combat! Students learn how to use different theatre styles to communicate stories that they want to tell, be it personal, extraordinary or 'crucial' to their peers. Courses can be booked to run at weekends, or during the holidays.

We have two programmes available:
Creative activity & drama workshops Choose from either pure drama or multi-activity workshops that could take place from a single day to a full week, or at weekends. These are facilitated by two creative professionals*. Pick and mix from: drama, music, dance, Bhangra, stagecraft, circus skills, storytelling, puppetry, stage combat (KS2), mime.

Holiday drama academy - 'play in a week' A wonderful opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a theatre production - from acting techniques and directing to costumes, make-up and props. Facilitated by two professional actors*. Ask us about your own choice of play or choose from our current list - from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Grease.

* Outside of school hours, we allow 2 facilitators or actors to between 30 and 40 children.
